Read this before acting on anything here. It matters more on this site than on most, because the numbers look precise and precision invites over-confidence.
Estimates, not quotes
Every figure on this site is an estimate built on state-wide averages and the assumptions you enter into a calculator. None of it is a quote, an offer, or a prediction of what you will actually pay.
Your rate is not the state average
The headline rate for a state is an average across every utility operating in it. Your own tariff may be materially higher or lower. Always check your bill for the figure that applies to you.
Not professional advice
Nothing here is financial, legal, engineering or tax advice. In particular, the solar payback calculator is a screening tool. A real decision on a solar installation should rest on site-specific quotes, your roof's orientation and shading, your utility's current net-metering terms, and confirmation of the tax credits you personally qualify for.
Tax credits change
Federal and state energy incentives are revised frequently. The default values in the calculators reflect our understanding at the time of writing and may be out of date. Verify current rules with the IRS and your state energy office.
No affiliation
KilowattHQ is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for the U.S. Energy Information Administration, any utility, energy retailer, or installer.
Advertising
This site does not currently display advertising. If third-party advertising is introduced, advertisers will have no influence over the data presented or the conclusions drawn from it, and an advertisement appearing on a page will not be an endorsement.
